Using iCal

Setting up the delegates in iCal is quite easy.

1) Go the Preferences in iCal (via the File menue) and choose the Accounts panel.

2) Select your account and click on the Delegation tab.

3) Now you can see every calendar, that you have access to. The access to the calendar is configured in the server config files as described in the chapter Users & Groups. Select the calendars of your car and Mary's. If you only see a message like Delegation cannot b…

Introduction

Unofrtunately, installing the Darwin Calendar Server (DCS) on Mac OS X is not quite as simple as installing other applications you may have downloaded from the web. Since the project is still considered “under development”, there is no real GUI and most of the work has to be done using the Terminal and the Property List Editor, which comes with the OS X Developer tools.

	* Note: I haven't been playing with Ubuntu for a while so the Ubuntu info is not so up to date. However, the same process described below works to some degree with Debian 6 (squeeze) and perfectly with Debian 5 (lenny).
	* Note2: Debian 6 will install calendarserver from repositories, and it will start up and a user can make a calendar using apple's iCal. However, it doesn't appear that the user can delegate authority on the calendar and browsing the calendar server wit…

This one is quite a little one. It's only about setting multiple calendars for a single user. You could need that for example in an office environment, where you need different calendars for different projects.

Adding a calendar using iCal

Ok, this will be short: Just click on the File menue, move your pointer to New Calendar and choose your Network Account. That's it. iCal has added a new calendar to your sidebar and told the Calendar Server to create a new calendar in the database.

For the configuration of the server files, it is assumed, that you have installed the DCS and can start it. If not, please read through the installation tutorials first.

1) Navigate in the Finder to the folder CalendarServer and open the subfolder CalendarServer/conf/auth. Please duplicate the file accounts-test.xml and name it accounts-test-backup.xml. Open the file accounts-test.xml with your TextEditor.
